Youth Sports Descriptions


Baseball


T-Ball
The t-ball league is a program that was developed to teach young baseball players the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn the basics of t-ball in this great introductory sport. Participants will learn how to catch, throw, and bat off a hitting tee in a fun team atmosphere. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play t-ball in a non-competitive environment. This is a staff/coach led game without any officials. T-ball is a stepping stone to the next level of baseball. Each participant will receive a game jersey and hat. 

 

The YMCA baseball program includes the Pitch & Tee, Coaches Pitch, Machine Pitch,
Single-A, and Double-A divisions.
Our baseball leagues are designed to develop fundamental baseball skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills taught include catching, throwing, fielding. Each participant will receive a game jersey and hat. 


Softball

We offer slow pitch softball for girls 9-12 years old. Our softball leagues are designed to develop fundamental softball skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills taught include catching, throwing, fielding, and  hitting. Softball may have games off site or on weekdays. Each participant will receive a game jersey and hat.

Skills taught include passing, shooting, dribbling, and the rules of the game. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play basketball in a non-competitive environment. Various branches will also offer basketball clinics like Little Dribblers for younger children.

Future Stars: Girls Basketball League

The Y and The San Antonio Silver Stars have teamed up to maximize the positive effects of girls playing basketball by emphasizing healthy competition and promoting teamwork along with individual development. With the help of the Stars, the Y will focus on the life lessons to be learned from basketball and instill a positive self-image in each player. The Future Stars leagues are for all girls ages 7-12. Join the Future Stars Basketball League presented by IDEA Public Schools at area Ys this spring Team will travel for games throughout the San Antonio area.

Flag Football

Flag football leagues are designed to develop fundamental football skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Skills taught include passing, catching, offense and defense schemes, and the rules of the game. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends, and play football in a non-competitive environment. 


Tackle Football
Heads Up Football® is USA football’s national initiative to help make the sport of football better and safer. Y tackle football leagues are designed to teach children fundamental football skills, rules of the game, teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship. Skills taught include throwing, catching, passing, offensive and defensive skills.

In Lacrosse Summer Clinic at the Y, your child will learn basic knowledge and receive focused training essential for their improvement of the game. We work on stick work, passing, throwing, and cradling. Participants will develop self-confidence and independence that will help them grow throughout the course of the camp.

Program stresses the development of spirit, mind and body through discipline, practice and hard work. Students will learn the art of kicking and punching, with an emphasis on self-defense, self control and self-discipline. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and learn the fundamentals of karate in a non-competitive environment.

Introductory soccer Leagues: Pee Wee, Little Kickers, Little Sprouts

Our balanced and creative approach to coaching will have a positive impact on your child that goes far beyond the soccer field. Our high-energy soccer classes are carefully designed to enhance your child’s overall growth and well-being.  The result?  Kids with strong physical skills, who are well-balanced and confident. Participants will learn the basics of soccer in this great introductory league. Skills include: learn how to pass, kick and shoot in a fun team atmosphere. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play soccer in a non-competitive environment. This is a coach led game without any officials.


SOCCER Leagues 

Our soccer leagues are designed to develop fundamental soccer skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship. Children will learn basic strategies and rules of the game, sportsmanship, and much more.  Skills taught include  shooting, passing, and dribbling.

The YMCA Cheer program is designed as an instructional introduction to sideline cheer. We offer a safe and productive environment for your child to learn the fundamentals of cheer as well as the importance of teamwork. Participants will have an opportunity to learn basic motions, chants, jumps, make new friends while developing discipline and leadership skills while team spirit.
