Nancy Barton Abbott has served as Chaplain for the Greater YMCA of San Antonio for over three years. Prior to her work at the YMCA, she served as a Women’s Minister in churches in Austin, Wheaton, Illinois and Fullerton, California. Nancy’s love for the YMCA began in the early 80’s when she served as Director of Senior Adult Fitness for the Dallas Metropolitan YMCA, serving Active Older Adults throughout the Metroplex. She also served as a Trainer of Trainers for the Active Older Adult program nationally. She co-authored the first YMCA Active Older Adult Manual for the YMCA of the USA.
Nancy’s passion is to equip YMCA leaders in showing and showering people with God's love, grace, compassion and kindness. It is her vision to see the Y's mission a reality in San Antonio: Put Christian principles into practice that build a vital healthy spirit, mind and body. Nancy graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Gerontology and minor in Exercise Physiology and Recreation. She received her M.A. in Christian Education from Dallas Seminary. She is married to Ben Abbott and enjoys riding and showing horses, biking, kayaking and fly fishing on the Guadelupe River, reading and her English Springer, Gracie Lou.
