After extensive research and evaluation, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio has made the difficult decision to permanently close the Walzem Family YMCA as a wellness facility, effective immediately. Our leadership team concluded that the investment required to continue operating what is a leased space outpaces our current resources. With what was already limited resources now being stretched thinner due to the current pandemic, investing in existing Y owned facilities is the best decision for our Y.
We have a responsibility to determine how we can best fulfill our charitable Christian mission and maximize our impact with the resources available to us. As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 health crisis and slowly resume pre-pandemic operations, we must reimagine how to best serve the greater San Antonio community.
We will continue to provide emergency childcare for essential personnel through the end of May and on June 1 will begin offering summer day camp through August 2020. We are still here to serve and support your community through one of our 11 other Y locations. The branches within the closest proximity are the Davis-Scott Family YMCA, the Thousand Oaks Family YMCA, and the Schertz Family YMCA.
This is heartbreaking news for all of us and we know how much the Y means to your community. We are grateful for your support and appreciate you. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
All Walzem Family YMCA memberships have been placed on a 30-day complimentary hold. We hope that you will still remain a member with us and enjoy city-wide access to each of our 11 branches. If you choose to stay with us, you will continue to keep the neighborhood member pricing levels you have, and also enjoy the new tiers and lower-pricing options, regardless of which Y branch you choose to join. You can simply reactivate your membership by visiting one of our local branches or by emailing [email protected].
