Youth Sports allow young people to develop skills and build healthy lifestyles through teamwork, fun and fair play. Our coaches are caring volunteers that help guide our children through learning the essentials of physical fitness, healthy development, and participation. There are no tryouts in our non-competitive sports programs. Both team and individual sports are available.

The YMCA Sports team communicates with families and coaches each season through our PlayerpSpace sports management platform. If you're new to the YMCA or a returning family be sure to follow this link to sign in or create your account in the upper right-hand corner.
Practices are guaranteed to occur at or near your home location, but games are played at YMCAs throughout the Greater San Antonio association based on registration numbers. YMCA leagues and divisions may be combined with those from other Ys to ensure participation for all.

Sports Offered:
Kids will participate in 4-week clinics tailored to specific age groups and sports.
Our younger groups (ages 3-6) are more focused on skill-building and fun. This is a great way to get your kids introduced to a sport or continue their skill-building in order to improve their team experience for the next season.
Our older group clinics (ages 7 -14) will participate in advanced drills and mini-games designed to improve their skills and improve their abilities in competition.

Baseball Clinics
Teaches the fundamentals and basic skills of baseball.
Ages 3-4 (Wednesdays at 6 - 6:45pm)
Ages 5-6 (Wednesdays at 7 - 8pm)

Soccer 3v3 (co-ed)
Teaches the fundamentals and basic skills of soccer.
Boys & Girls
Ages 7-8 (Wednesdays at 6 - 7pm)
Ages 9-10 (Wednesdays at 7:15 - 8:15pm)

Ages 11-12 (Thursdays at 6 - 7pm)
Ages 13-16 (Thursdays at 7:15 - 8:15pm)
Participants will play in a 6-week series where they will be learning the fundamentals of teamwork and team chemistry while also focusing on their personal growth through game play. Teams will be made up of 3 and will change constantly. This allows participants to play alongside different skill sets.

YMCA guarantees a child will play a minimum of 50% of the time in every sport. This Best Practice allows the child the time to grow and develop their confidence and skills.
Participants can request to play with a certain coach, or a friend or player. During General and Late Registration, requests are not guaranteed.
Members receive a discount on Youth Sports and other Y Programs.

The YMCA swim lesson curriculum is designed to teach this lifelong skill to children and adults of all skill levels in a safe environment. We offer swim lessons for the beginner and for those looking to improve their strokes. Adult swim lessons are for individuals ages 13 and older.

Ages: 6 months - 3 years
With a parent in the pool, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim-readiness skills. Parents learn about water safety and drowning prevention.

Qualifications: Stage A: Water Discovery
You’ll work with your child to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatic skills. This class is for kids who aren’t yet comfortable working with an instructor without a parent in the water.

Kids learn safe water habits, underwater exploration, how to swim to safety and exit the water. Lessons are a mix of activities, games and drills.
Parent required in water for all Pre- School Stages (1-4)
In this program, preschoolers learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills—swim, float, swim and jump, push, turn, grab.

Ages: 3 - 5yrs
Qualifications: (1) able to go underwater & comfortably open eyes without goggles, (2) able to float on front & back with minimal assistance, (3) able to jump in the pool, submerge & return to the wall with assistance.
Preschoolers focus on body position and control, directional change, forward movement in the water and continue to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This class is for kids who aren’t yet able to do a front and back float on their own.
In this class, your child will:

Ages: 5 - 12 yrs
Qualifications: (1) able to float on front & back unassisted, (2) able to push off the wall on stomach with face submerged for 10 feet unassisted, (3) able to Swim-Float-Swim 15 feet unassisted, (4) able to jump into deep water and return to the wall unassisted.
Kids learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages. The class also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm/leg action. This class is for kids who aren’t yet able to swim 10-15 yards on their front and back.

Having mastered the fundamentals, school-age kids learn additional water safety skills and build stroke techniques.
The stages offered are:

Ages: 5 - 12 yrs
Qualifications: (1) able to submerge & retrieve an object in chest deep water, (2) able to swim front crawl 15 yards while taking a breath, (3) able to Swim-Float-Swim 15 yards, (4) able to jump in & tread water for 30 seconds (5) able to swim to wall & exit.
Kids learn the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. This class is for kids who aren’t yet able to swim 15 yards of front and back crawl.
In this class, your child will:

Ages: 5 - 12 yrs
Qualifications: (1) able to front crawl & back crawl 25 yards, (2) able to swim breaststroke kick and dolphin kick 15 yards (3) able to tread water using multiple kicks for 1 minute.
Kids work on stroke technique and learn the major competitive strokes. This class is for kids who aren’t yet able to swim the front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke across the pool.
In this class, your child will:

Ages: 5 - 12 yrs
Qualifications: (1) able to swim front crawl with bent arm recovery & rotary breathing for 25 yards, (2) able to swim back crawl with stroke rotation for 25 yards, (3) able to swim butterfly with over arm recovery, (4) able to swim breaststroke for 25 yards achieving stroke rhythm, (5) able to dive from kneeling position.
Kids refine stroke techniques on the major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle. This class is for kids who aren’t yet able to swim the front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke across the pool and back.
In this class, your child will:

Private Swim Lessons for ages 3 and up allow for individualized attention to help improve or master swimming skills. Together, the instructor, participant, and/or parent determine the goals for the session, and the curriculum is customized in order to meet these goals.
Cost: Y Member: $130 | Non-Member: $150
Lessons: held twice a week for two weeks (Session includes 4, 45 min lessons)
All beginner swimmers and any swimmer under 6 years old, must have a parent or guardian accompany the child into the water and assist with hands-on skill practice.

EGYM can provide exercisers with personalized workouts that are effective, engaging, and fun.
City Wide's record-breaking contribution will directly support YMCA programs, expanding access to essential services for youth and families in the San Antonio area and other local YMCAs where City Wide Facility Solutions serve.
To help serve the families in the La Vernia ISD, the YMCA has partnered with the school district to offer two programs in the 2025-2026 school year.
The program runs from 3:40 pm to 6:30 pm Monday – Friday. If you register for afterschool, it will include the full day on Friday from 7:25 am to 6:30 pm. On Fridays, if your student is currently receiving bus services, the school district will provide morning transportation. You can sign up for transportation by selecting it during our registration process or contacting the transportation department. You must bring your lunch or purchase lunch from the district, and the YMCA will provide an afternoon snack daily. The rate will be $89 per week.
**If you require transportation, you must be enrolled at least 5 days in advance to allow time for transportation to be arranged.
Register for Afterschool Monday – Friday
The program runs Friday Only from 7:25 am to 3:40 pm. If your student is currently receiving bus services, the school district will provide morning and afternoon transportation like a normal school day. You can sign up for transportation by selecting it during our registration process or contacting the transportation department. You must bring your lunch or purchase lunch from the district.
La Vernia ISD will financially support the Friday only program based upon a mutual agreement between La Vernia ISD and YMCA. Once slots are filled, your child will be placed on a waiting list and you will be notified by phone or email when your child can enter the program. Attendance is required. You can not miss more than one day per month. Students that do not adhere to the attendance policy will be removed from the program.
