YMCA of Greater San Antonio Launches 150th Anniversary with County Proclamation and Community Celebration
SAN ANTONIO, TX — The YMCA of Greater San Antonio officially launched its 150th anniversary celebration today with a press event at the Thousand Oaks Family YMCA, marking the beginning of a year-long milestone honoring its legacy of strengthening community and uniting generations.

› Group Swim Lessons
Number 1 in Water Safety
The YMCA swim lesson curriculum is designed to teach this lifelong skill to children and adults of all skill levels in a safe environment. We offer swim lessons for the beginner and for those looking to improve their strokes. Adult swim lessons are for individuals ages 13 and older.
What to Expect
- All YMCA swim instructors are nationally certified and are trained in CPR, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.
- Small instructor-to-student ratios
- A curriculum focusing on skills-based instruction with an emphasis on personal safety.
- Provided take-home tools and resources to support students and families outside of the Y.
- Students’ progress is tracked throughout the session and discussed with parents.
- Mid-session reports are given halfway through the session, and certificates of achievement are given at completion.
- A variety of class offerings at many convenient Y locations.

Ages: 6 months - 3 years
With a parent in the pool, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim-readiness skills. Parents learn about water safety and drowning prevention.
Ages: 3 - 5yrs
Kids learn safe water habits, underwater exploration, how to swim to safety, and exit the water. Lessons are a mix of activities, games, and drills.
Stages: 1-4 Descriptions
Ages: 5 -12 years
Starting with water safety and basic swimming competency, kids progress to learn about the four competitive swimming strokes.
Stages: 1-6 Descriptions
Ages: 13 +
The YMCA Swim Lesson Curriculum is a core group of aquatic skills every person needs to be safe around water. As the foundation of our program, these skills allow students to learn correct swim stroke techniques.

› Adaptive Swim Lessons
• Adaptive swim lessons offered in a supportive group setting.
• Designed for children and youth with cognitive or physical disabilities.
• Focused on water safety, comfort in the water, and foundational stroke development.
• Led by nationally certified swim instructors.
*Prior to the start of the first lesson, a phone call by the aquatics department to set up a pre-meeting date in person.

› Private Swim Lessons
Private Swim Lessons for ages 3 and up allow for individualized attention to help improve or master swimming skills. Together, the instructor, participant, and/or parent determine the goals for the session, and the curriculum is customized in order to meet these goals.
Cost: Y Member: $145 | Non-Member: $165
Lessons: held once a week for four weeks (Session includes 4, 45 min lessons)

Competitive Stroke Clinic
Swimmers will learn stroke technique and development and refinement to help improve the technical aspects of their competitive swimming strokes with a focus on Backstroke, Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Diving, and Flips/Turns. Our certified USA Swim Coaches and YMCA Swim Instructors will be coaching these clinics.
